Hello all,

My problem may be a bit long-winded, but I will explain the details in case anyone can help.

I'm having a problem with my Samsung Story Station 1TB external drive. In the Windows "event viewer" the following warning comes up constantly:

"Event ID:   51
An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk2\D during a paging operation."

I am trying to work out the cause of this. Samsung have told me to run an extended scan with their diagnostic program (ESWin), but the test gets stuck near the beginning, even when left for hours and hours. They haven't suggested any reasons for this (their customer support is absolutely atrocious), so I decided to just try another diagnostic program (hence I downloaded HDDScan.

HDDScan recognises my drive and retrieves the SMART data, but when I try to run an extended "SMART offline test" the program just says "executing" and shows no signs of progress. This would seem to be the same behaviour shown in Samsung's ESWin. Short tests run fine in both programs.

Any ideas about what is happening and where I should go from here?
Many thanks,
Sam

The Extended test can last hours. Try to wait an hour and check progress bar after that
